Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my class grade?+
Multiply each category's score by its weight, then add them up. For example: Tests (50%) = 85 × 0.50 = 42.5, Homework (30%) = 90 × 0.30 = 27, Quizzes (20%) = 80 × 0.20 = 16. Total = 85.5%.
What score do I need to get an A?+
Subtract your current weighted total from the grade you want (90% for an A), then divide by the weight of the remaining category. If you have 80% and the final is worth 20%: (90 - 80) ÷ 0.20 = 50%. You need to score 50% on the final.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted grades?+
Weighted grades account for the percentage value of each assignment and category weights. Unweighted is simply the total score divided by the total possible. Weighted is more accurate because different assignments have different importance.
How does dropping the lowest score affect my grade?+
Dropping the lowest score usually raises your grade, especially if it is significantly below your average. It works by removing the outlier that drags your average down. Calculate with and without the drop to see the difference.
