How does QR file transfer work?+
One device (the sender) displays an endless stream of animated QR codes encoding the file. The other device's camera scans the codes and the receiver rebuilds the file from them. The fountain coding used means any subset of the frames is enough — dropped frames only cost time, never correctness.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?+
No. The whole transfer happens between the two screens — nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and no network connection is needed between the devices.
What is the maximum file size?+
Files up to 64 MB are supported. Smaller files and text snippets transfer faster, and the tool compresses the file automatically when it helps.
How fast is the transfer?+
The speed depends on the camera and the QR density. At close range with a good camera you can expect several hundred KB/s; dense frames (2953 bytes per frame) are fastest phone-to-phone at close range.
Is the transfer secure?+
The data travels only as light from one screen to the other — no network, no intermediate server. Anyone with a camera in line of sight of the sending screen could read it, so it is best for trusted surroundings.
