What is the Screen Color Test?
Screen Color Test fills your entire display with pure, uniform colors so you can inspect the panel for hardware defects: dead pixels, stuck sub-pixels and backlight bleed. It works on any monitor, laptop, tablet or phone — nothing is installed and nothing is recorded.
Each color plays a different role. Pure black in a dark room exposes backlight leaking along the edges. Pure white makes dark, never-lit pixels stand out. The red, green and blue primaries light up one sub-pixel group at a time, which is how you spot pixels that are stuck in a single color. The grayscale gradient reveals banding and uneven brightness across the panel.
How to test your screen
- Set brightness to 100% and turn off night mode, dark overlay or any color filter.
- Click a test color above — the whole screen fills edge to edge.
- Sweep your eyes slowly across the panel, especially the edges and corners: any dot that differs from the background is a dead or stuck pixel.
- Switch to pure black in a dark room and check the borders for bright, cloudy patches — that is backlight bleed.
- Click, press Space or use the arrow keys to cycle colors; press Esc to exit.
Tips
- Run the test in a dark room — ambient light hides faint backlight bleed.
- Check every color before concluding: a stuck pixel only shows on some colors, and it can even look like a defect in an image that is actually fine.
- One or two stuck pixels are covered by many manufacturers' dead-pixel policies — count them and check your warranty terms before requesting a replacement.
