What Is Video Frame Extraction?

Video frame extraction captures still frames from a video at fixed time intervals, commonly used for building assets, collecting screenshots, or analyzing video content.

The tool samples frames one by one and shows them in a grid, making it easy to pick out the shots you need.

How to Use

Extract frames in three steps:

  • Upload a video (MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, or other browser-playable formats).
  • Set the extraction interval and output format (PNG/JPEG).
  • Click Extract Frames, preview the results, then download frames individually or as a ZIP.

Tips

  • To grab a specific shot, locate the time in a player first, then work out the interval to use.
  • JPEG is small and great for quick previews; PNG is crisp and better for assets.
  • Trim long videos before extracting to avoid too many frames.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set the frame extraction interval?+
The interval is how often a frame is captured, in seconds. A smaller interval gives more, smoother frames; a larger interval gives fewer frames and saves storage space.
What is the maximum number of frames I can extract?+
To protect browser memory, up to 100 frames can be extracted at a time. We recommend increasing the interval or trimming the video first.
What formats can I save to?+
PNG (lossless, ideal for crisp screenshots) and JPEG (smaller file size) are supported. Download frames one by one or bundle them all into a ZIP with one click.
Is my video uploaded to a server?+
No. The video is decoded entirely in your browser — the frames never leave your device during extraction.
